Mondays. Ugh. Fight the Monday blues with this unbelievable mix!
"3 years in the making, 3 DJs working with over 150 tracks to recreate one of the seminal sampling albums of all time, at last Cheeba, Moneyshot and I can reveal ‘Caught In The Middle Of A 3-Way Mix’. Our tribute to the classic Beastie Boys album ‘Paul’s Boutique’ remixed and re-imagined from all the original samples plus a cappellas, period interviews and the Beasties’ own audio commentary from the reissued release."

Cryptographer & Encoded Textiles
Wish we thought of this! What a fabulous experiment in textiles... create a scarf with a personalized text message. "A personal message is more and more often sent digitally. Intangible, floating in the air, only readable on a screen. The Cryptographer generates pattern by translating words to a code. Bleached into fabric the message becomes tangible. Invisible words, with a physical impact. Controlled by text messaging each character is transformed into a specified icon, resulting in ever changing patterns, depending on the users input." via rawcolor.nl

F.A.T. Labs | QR HOBO CODES
F.A.T. Labs have take hobo codes into the 21st century. They have generated QR_HOBO_CODES, a series of one hundred QR stencil designs which, covertly marked in urban spaces, may be used to warn people about danger or clue them into good situations.
And I quote: These stencils can be understood as a covert markup scheme for urban spaces — providing directions, information, and warnings to digital nomads and other indigenterati. We present these as modern equivalents of the chalk-based "hobo signs" developed by 19th century vagabonds and migratory workers to cope with the difficulty of nomadic life. Indeed, our set of QR stencils port a number of classic hobo annotations to the QR format ("turn right here", "dangerous dog", "food for work") as well as some new ones, with a nod to warchalking, that are specific to contemporary conditions ("insecure wifi", "hidden cameras", "vegans beware").
View all 100 codes, including GPS is incorrect, good veg-burger, great dumpster, bad coffee, unexpectedly good coffee.

Natural Fractals from Cohabitaire
We love our fractals. Last season we made a scarf with a fractal print (mandelbrot-inspired to be exact). Fractals are commonly found in nature. Check below for some beautiful nature-made fractals. All photos courtesy of Cohabitaire.
A fractal is an object or quantity that displays self-similarity, in a somewhat technical sense, on all scales (meaning no matter how much you zoom in or out the proportions will be the same.) The object need not exhbit exactly the same structure at all scales, but the same 'type' of structuure must appear on all scales.

Dancing Mania (in Cinema)
Following the dancing mania that our recent LOOMLAB mixtape provoked - I came across this wonderful poster collection, Dancing Plague of 1518, by the artist Niege Borges.
Artist Statement: In 1518, a bunch of people from a french town called Stransbourg were
affected by something called dancing mania. It began with one lady named
Frau Troffea dancing in the street and end up with, more or less, 400
people dancing on for days without rest, resulting in some deaths of
heart attack, stroke and exhaustion. This project is, in some sort of
way, a memorial for Frau Toffea. From the silliest little dance to the
most elaborate dance sequence of the history of cinema, there were a lot
of dancing in the last decades (not enough to kill anyone, I hope).
Here are some of these dances.

Here's to the Crazy Ones
My dad just sent this to me via email... a wonderful gem as I weed through my emails that accumulated too quickly over the holiday break.
Here’s to the Crazy Ones.
The misfits.
The rebels.
The troublemakers.
The round pegs in the square holes.
The ones who see things differently.
They’re not fond of rules.
And they have no respect for the status quo.
You can quote them, disagree with them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them.
About the only thing that you can’t do, is ignore them.
Because they change things.
They invent. They imagine. They heal.
They explore. They create. They inspire.
They push the human race forward.
Maybe they have to be crazy.
How else can you stare at an empty canvas and see a work of art?
Or, sit in silence and hear a song that hasn’t been written?
Or, gaze at a red planet and see a laboratory on wheels?
We make tools for these kinds of people.
While some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.
Because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world,
are the ones who do.
It never gets old. Thanks Dad for reminding me to remain crazy and to Think Different.

Composting at LOOMLAB
I just moved studios in August. This one has a space, albeit small, but still a space to garden. The soil needs some love and enrichment... Great find on Craigslist - a homemade compost maker!
